February News

Hey all!
Time is running and February was over pretty quick (and not only because it has a few days less than all the other months…). So this is what has happened for me.
In the beginning of February I was hanging at the ispo sports tradeshow. I did not really have a lot to do there besides keeping my sponsors at VANS, Oakley, Skullcandy, Light Board Corp., Protec and MG-Sport from working by eating their snacks and drinking their drinks. One day I went with photographer Peter Ortmann of ortmaniacs.de to the BMX hall in Emmering to ride it one last time before it got closed. I rode out my first flips on a BMX bike. I know, it doesn‘t sound impressive for a guy flipping his MX-bike, but I really never flipped a bicycle onto a hard landing! So now I am planning to put the flip into my MTB slopestyle-run at the Dirtmasters Festival in Winterberg (coming May, 21st-24th, including another great Upforce FMX Show, presented by Suzuki, and another Dan Dryers Punk‘n‘Roll-gig)… Continue reading

Galileo Fake Check

Ok, it is a little bit old, but I just found the link to the fake video check that was filmed last summer for german TV station Pro7. I had to test if a webclip where a FMXer jumps into a transporter is real or fake… check out the video here (sorry, it is in german only)

New TV job

Today I had my first gig at one of my new non-riding jobs. I am the new moderator for the “Bike – das POLO Motorradmagazin” on german sportschannel DSF. To start off we covered the season opener of the IFMXF FMX Worldchamionships in Berlin. The show will be aired in April.

Missing: global warming!

Where is the global warming if you need it? Instead of spending the last days in Italy riding FMX we had to cancel our plans due to the snowmasses and cold temperatures. Bummer! So I hung out at the ISPO sportstradeshow in Munich and kept my people from Vans, Oakley, Skullcandy, MG-Sport and Protec from working by telling them stupid jokes, eating their candy and drinking their beer… Since this gets boring pretty quick I was happy when my photo-buddy Peter Ortmann invited me for a BMX shooting at the Tretlager Halle in Emmering before it will get closed next week. I rode out my first flips on a BMX bike (I know this doesn’t sound very impressive for a guy who is flipping a dirtbike over 20+ meters, but I really never had fliped a bicycle onto a landing, only into the foampit) and Peter snapped some shots of me in the curved wallride… Check out ortmaniacs.de for more cool shots of Peter and his brother Hannes!

Remembering Jeremy

Today one year ago the tragedy has happened. We lost one of the greatest personalities and riders of our beloved sport. The unthinkable happened and Jeremy Lusk died because of a FMX-crash. Today I will remember Jeremy and think about all the aspects that we as riders and the promoters of this world can do to try to avoid the next big crash. Of course we all are willing to push our riding and challenge ourselfes in doing so and if we would not like it we would play soccer or so. And of course our sport is dangerous, we will not be able to change that. But what we can do is to work on tracks that don’t put additional dangers in. I don’t talk about jumping short distances. But for example: enough safetytable on the landing, enough space behind the landing to brake, airfences on the walls, no mobile landing shows without airbags in front of it… there is a lot of those little things and it is so easy to not pay attention to those.
Also riding gear and wearing protective gear is a point. Of course there is no 100% safety, but new protectors get developed every year and they are not as uncomfortable and heavy as they used to be in the 80′s, so keep on testing them. New materials are getting developed which are soft as neoprene while you wear it and become hard during an impact…
And we should try to be a little bit smart. I don’t see anything cool in jumping backflips without a helmet and wearing only sneakers. What do you want to prove by doing so? What kind of an idiot you are?
Jeremy, R.I.P., we miss you!

January News

I hope you all had a nice sweet jump into 2010! I did have it, but that is not too difficult shredding on the snowboard in the VANS Penken park in Mayrhofen… haha!
Instead of doing the yearly gig at the SX Dortmund this year I went to watch the Anaheim 1 SX opener in the USA. The reason for it was that Red Bull had invited me to take part of the Red Bull Judging Clinic. For two days a group of FMX Insiders discussed and tested the new judging for the Red Bull X-Fighters tour. I am pretty happy about our achievements and this system should help to show us great, creative and various runs with a nice mix of rightsideup and upsidedown tricks and a lot of personal flavour. I hope the times are over when everybody tries to copy the other guys runs… the future should be bright for FMX! Continue reading

Newsletter

Yes, I am alive!!!

Oh well, it really has been a while since I send out a newsletter. I feel really bad since in the past I was pretty busy doing it and this year it is just different… so I will try to do a short summary since my last newsletter from July…

Just the day before I left for the Red Bull X-Fighters in Madrid I twisted my knee while I was Wakeskating. At first it did not seem to be a big problem, but during the Horsefeathers Jam in Prague, put on by Martin Koren, I realised, something was wrong. I had broken off some cartilage from my kneedisk and needed surgery to remove the pieces that were floating around in my knee… alltogether I was out for 7 weeks!
But since I started my own company ATZE ENTERTAINMENT this summer, I was busy anyway. Under the wings of ATZE I am running our UPFORCE FMX Shows as well as the SPOTelicious videoproduction that I started with my buddy and photographer Christoph Leib. Continue reading
